BIFF kicks off the year with successful Fiesta Hispana fundraiser

The Bahamas Weekly News Team attended Fiesta Hispana on August 22nd at the Balmoral Club. This event was a fundraiser to kick off the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) 2009, which will be held in December from the 10th to the 17th in Nassau.
The venue was nothing short of "wow" at the The Balmoral Club, an eighteen-room, two story mansion with its spacious halls and elegant, floating, spiral staircase, and indoor or outdoor areas.
Perennial runner-up Spain performed a rockin' routine to Led Zeppelin and finally claimed gold in synchronized swimming, winning the free combination at the world championships Wednesday.

A tour-bus has crashed near Barcelona in north-eastern Spain, killing at least six people and injuring about 40.
Most of the casualties were reported to be Dutch tourists.
The crash happened at about 2310 (2110 GMT) on Thursday at Sant Pol de Mar. Spanish media say the bus left the road on a bend, hit a car and overturned.
Already 700 entries have been submitted to the Spanish national selection, to their MySpace page.
The Spanish broadcaster TVE announced today that since opening the submission page already 700 entries have been sent it. Not all of them comply with the rules, though, they said. The most active region has been Madrid with 136 songs, followed by Barcelona with 53 and Valencia with 19.
